The ST403 Series are non-contact displacement sensors using
the eddy current principle. They can measure equally well against any
conductive targets that are non-ferro-magnetic or ferromagnetic. A coil is
potted in the sensor case and is energized by a constant frequency alternating
current. The electromagnetic field from the coil generates eddy currents
in the target material resulting in a change in the coil impedance.
Demodulated, linearized and amplified, the impedance variation yields a linear
electrical signal proportional to the distance of the target from the
sensor. ST403 sensors do not apply forces to the target. The application
is free of wear and maintenance.

Selections
 | ST403-U Series: |
The ST403-U unshielded sensor models U05, U1, U3, U6
and U8 are designed with a coil located directly behind the face of a
non-metallic cylinder. They provide maximum sensitivity in
non-flush installations. Sensors U15, U22, U40 and U80 have to be
mounted on a metal plate with a minimum diameter of 2 times the diameter
of the sensor.
 | ST403-S Series:
|
The ST403-S shielded sensor models S05, S1, S2, S4 and S6
are encased in a stainless steel housing with mounting threads right up
to their faces. This shields the coil from the influence of
adjacent metal parts. These sensor models are especially suitable
for flush mounting with metal surfaces.
